Program Philosophy
- Perspective in life. Faith, family and school work before athletics. Athletic endeavors can be very beneficial but they are a smaller portion of what matters in life.
- Dedication to others. Commitment to pursue a 'greater good'. Surrendering the 'me' for the 'we' is not just about being part of a team but the larger community we live in. Give more than you take. Leave places cleaner than you found them. "There are no great things to accomplish in this world, only small things done with great love." - Mother Theresa
- Effort, not performance. Emphasis is placed on giving our best today, not being the best today. You are the runner, not the clock. If we judge our personal value by the times that we run or the place we finish, we are likely to miss the joy, pain, and the greater experience that is the race. "Success is not final. Failure isn't fatal. Its the courage to continue that counts." - W. Churchill
- Personal growth. Strength isn't found in physical workouts alone. What you eat and drink, the rest you get, and your ability to deal with adversity emotionally and socially, all determine whether or not you will be your best today. Cultivating this level of excellence takes place through learning and discipline.
Tools for Runners
- Pedometer: Great tool to map runs and calculate distances!
- TBD: Check out your split times!
Articles and Information for Becoming a Better Runner
While we want all our athletes to run fast, the greater athletic goal of our program is to promote overall health. This section contains links to information that I have found educational and you may too. We encourage a holistic approach to health and wellness. Keeping a machine as complicated as the human body running in top condition involves a good understanding of the foods (and non-foods) you put into it, the stresses and challenges you endure daily, and finally, your social/emotional/spiritual well being. I am NOT a medical professional so I encourage you to talk with your family doctor about any health issues you have. Ask them lots of questions and learn as much as you can! It is your body after all!
